Area Information:
Gaffney has a rich history which began before the Revolutionary War. The Battle of Kings Mountain (1780) and The Battle of Cowpens (1781) were both important victories for the colonial patriots and prevented the British troops from advancing into North Carolina. Various activities and re-enactments are held on the battle sites each year.
The town of Gaffney was founded in 1803. In 1845, Dr. Thomas Curtis, a Baptist minister, and his son, William, came from England to establish Limestone College, the first woman's college in the state and one of the few in the nation.
Another attraction to Cherokee County is The Prime Outlets at Gaffney. Located just off I-85, at Exit 90, the mall features such stores as Nike, Brooks Brothers, Polo Ralph Lauren, The Gap, Carter's, Bose Factory Store, Tommy Hilfiger, American Eagle, and the Pottery Barn Furniture Outlet to name a few.
If one is seeking a quiet small town atmosphere, architectural character in historical neighborhoods, and a location that is growing daily, Cherokee County may well be the destination for you to call home.
